Beginnings

The Gujarati Comedy Group was founded in 2003 by Rajendra Brahmbhatt (the presenter of TV show Manoranjan on MATV) with the aim of promoting local theatrical talents among the Gujarati speaking community. The shows usually consist of several 10-15 minute sketches on various topics and some stand up comedy, poetry or Shayari.

The Audience

The audience typically belongs to the Gujarati based community residing in Leicester or other towns in Leicestershire.

Reviews

It has received good reviews both from the English language Leicester newspaper Leicester Mercury[1][2] and Gujarati language paper Gujarati Samachar.[3][4][5][6] Heten Tejura wrote "A full house was entertained to a variety of sketches, together with boot-tapping Bollywood music which catered for most age groups. Every sketch brough laughter and cheers of recognition".[7] The Gujarati Comedy Group is an annual participant in the Leicester Comedy Festival and won the "Best Newcomer Award" in 2005. The group is also a member of Mainstream Partnership an organization in the United Kingdom that has the goal of helping artists from Black and Minority Ethnic communities.
